Lexington, KY – July 23, 2026 – Kentucky Horse Shows, LLC, was thrilled to welcome professional hunter riders back to the Kentucky Horse Park this week. Landman and Mackenzie Suffy had a dominating performance in the combined Green 3’9”/High Performance Hunter division during the Kentucky Summer Horse Show, presented by Rood & Riddle. After earning the division’s championship prize, the duo also returned center ring to accept the Professional Grand Hunter Championship, presented by Hagyard Equine Medical Institute.
“Landman is a really cool horse,” smiled Suffy after her win. “We imported him about six months ago, so this is all new to him, but he’s super brave and takes it all in stride. He was a jumper his whole life, so he likes a little bit more contact, but he jumps beautifully over the bigger jumps and is quite fun to ride. We’ve been working on straightness and rideability and it’s just been clicking more and more at each show.”

During the first two days of competition at the Kentucky Summer Horse Show, Landman showcased brilliance and consistency. Suffy and Landman won two over-fences classes during the Green 3’9”/High Performance Hunter division before going on to win the under saddle and claim the championship prize. Landman’s performance was also rewarded with the Grand Hunter Championship, presented by Hagyard Equine Medical Institute.
Landman is a 12-year-old Zangersheide gelding owned by Canterbury Farm. Gregory Franklin imported him earlier this year, and the talented horse has been successfully competing in the Green 3’9” Hunters as well as the Junior Hunters.
“The video he was imported off of he was jumping the 1.25m and taking some really good jokes from his amateur rider – he just looked like a good soul and happy to work,” explained Suffy. “He’s so friendly. He’s in your pocket. He didn’t really know what cookies were when he first got here, and he’s a little too overjoyed about them now, but he’s very easygoing.”
Canterbury Farm is based in Lexington during the summer, so having the Kentucky Summer Horse Shows just 10 minutes away makes it one of their favorite events. “I love Kentucky,” concluded Suffy. “The hills and field are beautiful to ride in. It’s nice and close for us too, so it’s convenient for the young ones to show and then go home and get turned out at the end of the day.”
The Kentucky Summer Horse Show will feature more hunter action this week, including Sunday’s $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby and Saturday’s $1,500 USHJA Pony Hunter Derby.
