After two days of competition in the Stonelea Ring to kick off the Kentucky Spring Classic, Tim Goguen beat out close competitor Kelley Farmer for the coveted title of Grand Open Hunter Champion on Thursday afternoon. Scoring four out of five blue ribbons in the High Performance Hunter Division, Goguen sealed two division championships, the High Performance and Green Hunter 3’6, and ultimately the Grand Championship aboard 6-year-old Dutch Warmblood, Expression Z.

Returning for the first day of the Kentucky Spring Classic just a few short days after Mother’s Day, Kelley Farmer produced two wins aboard her mother’s gelding, It’s Me, as Bibby Farmer looked on. It’s Me, a now 9-year-old Warmblood, is a titleholder in the Stonelea Ring, having swept the Green Conformation Hunter championship as a stallion last spring. He went on to claim the Grand Open Hunter  Championship with Farmer in the irons in 2016.

Richie Moloney Kicks Off Kentucky Spring Classic with $35,000 Welcome Stake Win PDF Print E-mail

The Kentucky Spring Classic kicked off its international competition at the Kentucky Horse Park with the $35,000 Welcome Speed Stake CSI3*. The class tested 46 athletes over a single round speed course designed by Bernardo Costa Cabral of Portugal. Ireland’s Richie Moloney came out on top with his longtime partner Slieveanorra after producing a clear round in a time of 61.88 seconds. Margie Engle and Bocksmann’s Lazio completed the course 63.06 seconds to earn second place, while another Irish athlete, Shane Sweetnam closed out the top three spots on Cyklon 1083, crossing the timers at 63.53 seconds.

Sarah Segal Speeds to the Win in $40,000 Commonwealth Grand Prix PDF Print E-mail

The Kentucky Spring Horse Show concluded a week of action packed hunter and jumper competition today at the Kentucky Horse Park. Although today was the last day of competition, there was no shortage of excitement in Rolex Stadium. Under perfect blue skies, Sarah Segal and Cantara 59 won the $40,000 Commonwealth Grand Prix presented by Audi of Lexington, while Lacey Gilbertson and Baloppi topped the Under 25 Grand Prix presented by Hollow Creek Farm.

Cantara 59 has been part of Segal’s string of show horses for two years but Segal has been taking her time with the 11-year-old Hanoverian mare making sure they had a solid parternship in place before heading to the show ring. Segal made the decision to only compete Cantara 59 in select CSI2* Grand Prix classes at the end of the Winter Equestrian Festival and chose to come to the Kentucky Spring Horse Show as her first show of the 2017 summer competition season. The pair went towards the midpoint of the class which featured 43 horses and riders. After jumping a tidy clear round, they returned as part of a field of 12 in the jump off on Sunday afternoon.

Farmer and Colvin Ride to Victory in the USHJA Hunter Derbies PDF Print E-mail

Hunter competition for the Kentucky Spring Horse Show culminated on Sunday with both the $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby and the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby in the Stonelea Ring of the Kentucky Horse Park. Of the 12 combinations that qualified to return for the handy round of the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby, it was Victoria Colvin aboard Laura Karet’s, Caliber, who took top honors with an overall score of 183. Shortly after in the $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby, Kelley Farmer secured both first and second placings, winning the blue ribbon on Derby Lane LLC’s Point Being.
